After settling in, you will have a tour of the retreat's vast grounds, get to know the rest of the group, enjoy a delicious halal dinner, pray and enjoy an evening of dhikr, giving you a chance to unwind and begin soaking in the atmosphere.
We will begin the day with Fajr/short reminder, breakfast and departing Azahara around 9AM for our visit to Granada. On arrival we will explore the most visited site in Spain, the Alhambra for around 2-3 hours with our local tour guide. While British Citizen passport holders currently enjoy visa-free entry for short stays, many UK residents traveling on foreign passports will require a Schengen Visa to join us in Al-Andalus.
Because appointment slots at the Spanish consulate in London, Manchester, or Edinburgh can fill up rapidly—especially during peak seasons like March—Battuta Adventours strongly recommends beginning your application process at least 2 to 3 months before our March 23rd departure. To obtain your visa, you must book an appointment through the official BLS International website (the external service provider for the Spanish Consulate). You will need to provide proof of your UK residency, a confirmed flight itinerary, and your Battuta Adventours booking confirmation, which we will provide to assist your application. Standard processing times typically range from 15 to 45 days once your documents are submitted, so early preparation is essential to ensure your travel remains stress-free.
A Curated Circle of Sisterhood “To foster authentic connections and ensure personalized attention, our Al-Andalus journeys are exclusively limited to a fixed group of 16 sisters. This specific group size is intentionally chosen to balance the energy of a vibrant community with the intimacy of a private expedition.
Yes, free time is built into Granada and Córdoba days. For safety, please inform the guide when leaving the group. Some remote areas require necessary group travel.
The Al-Andalus Packing Guide: Essentials for the Journey
To fully enjoy the diverse landscapes of Granada, Córdoba, and the Alpujarras, we recommend a “layering” approach. With March temperatures fluctuating between 10°C and 20°C, preparing for both warm afternoon sun and cool mountain breezes is key.
Clothing & Dress Code
The Layering Strategy: Pack breathable base layers (cotton or linen), a warm mid-layer (fleece or hoodie), and a versatile outer layer.
Refined Modesty: Please bring comfortable, modest clothing suitable for visiting sacred sites and mosques.
Weather Protection: A light, rainproof coat or windbreaker is essential for occasional spring showers and the higher altitudes of the Alpujarras.
Essential Gear
👟 Quality Footwear (Critical): You will be walking on ancient cobblestones and mountain paths. Please bring well-broken-in walking shoes or structured trainers with excellent support.
🔌 Universal Power Adapter: Ensure your devices stay charged with a Type C or F (European) adapter.
☀️ Sun & Skin Protection: The Andalusian sun is surprisingly strong; bring a hat, quality sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen.
💧 Sustainability: A reusable water bottle to stay hydrated during our walking tours.
📓 Reflection Notebook: A dedicated journal to capture thoughts during our scholar-led reflection sessions.
Recommended: Get an e-sim or use your mobile data if you have a roaming plan.
Every Battuta Adventours experience features structured spiritual content. Our founder, Ustadh Tasaddaq Ashraf, leads our core Islamic reflections and prayers throughout the trip.
